Invader (French, b. 1969), also known as Space Invader, is an urban artist from Paris known for his mosaic street art inspired by the 1970s video game Space Invaders. He installs these pixelated characters in cities worldwide, documenting each piece as part of an "invasion" and creating maps and reference books to track their locations. His first installations appeared in Paris in 1998, and he has since "invaded" 31 other cities across France and 22 more throughout Europe. His work can now be found in cities across the U.S., Canada, Asia, and Australia. Invader's mosaics are made from weather-resistant tiles, echoing the pixelated graphics of early video games. One of his most iconic pieces appeared on the Hollywood Sign's "D" on December 31, 1999. In addition to mosaics, Invader crafts pixelated art using Rubik's Cubes. His profile rose further after being featured in the 2010 street art documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.
