Tavar Zawacki (b. 1981, California) is a Berlin-based American artist. At 19, he bought a one-way ticket from California to Paris with a backpack full of art supplies and a "rise above your fears" approach to launching his career. Working under the pseudonym ABOVE from 1996 to 2016, he introduced his signature arrow motif in Paris in 2001, a visual symbol of rising above fear, challenge, and limitation. Over nearly two decades, he created murals and public works across more than 45 countries. Since transitioning to studio practice and exhibiting under his birth name, Zawacki has presented more than ten international solo exhibitions. His Connected series, built through bold arches and transparent layers, explores how the intersection of colors and people creates something entirely new.
